Colour and light inspire me in all facets of art and craft that I attempt. You’ll see Sun and Moon at the Center of most works, whether they’re in photography, watercolour, acrylic, glass, pottery. My first love was photography, capturing the most beautiful scenery as I travelled around the world, (some photos being published in the Edmonton Journal). My travel motto came to life while travelling without my family years ago…’Wherever We Are in the World, We are Under the Same Moon’, I would stand under the night sky and say goodnight, I love you to my family every night and the world felt connected, a little less huge.
My eye would always gravitate to the more minute details of the landscape, natures designs are inspirational to say the least. It was only natural that I moved to painting. What better way to dive in and study a form. Watercolour will be the medium I will study for many years, I love that the paper is a big part of the result, the light. I strive to not cover it, let it contribute.
And Glass…it’s so exciting to work with colour and light in this medium. To build a project by layers then put the pieces in the kiln and wait for the results…I have to delve into this more. Glass fusing stands out as my favorite way to express my vision, there are no barriers to the flow of colour. Recently I tried glass blowing, the same freedom of movement exists there but you have to move fast, I will be trying that again. To me, Art is about exploring, learning, creating and I feel very fortunate to be surrounded by Local Artists who love to share their knowledge, inspire beginners. Spoiled with choices to delve into. Soak it in
